<\/span>Introduction<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

Fields in SearchAssist are assigned weights which help in calculating and determining the relevance score of the search results. Search relevance can be improved or decreased by fine-tuning the weights assigned to the fields defined in the Managing Indices section. Refer <\/span>Configuring Fields<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Assigning weights to the fields makes the fields searchable i.e, queries will be matched with the values in these fields. It helps determine the significance of these fields when <\/span>prioritizing <\/span>the search results.<\/span><\/p>\n

By default, SearchAssist identifies a list of system-defined searchable fields like proximity, exact match, popularity, etc. from the extracted documents and assigns weights to them. You can change the weights of the system-defined fields or add new searchable fields to finetune the search results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each field is assigned a weight on a scale of 0 to 10. Increasing the field\u2019s weight increases its significance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want a particular page to get more attention or project a particular item in your merchandise like the latest edition of a book or the\u00a0 model of a smartphone,\u00a0 you can increase the weights associated with that page title so that it surfaces above other results.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the weights page, you can add various fields and change the weight settings <\/span>of each field<\/span>. You can try test queries in the search bar and fine-tune your weights until the expected results appear.<\/span><\/p>\n

To add a searchable field\u00a0and set weight for it, take the following steps:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Click the\u00a0Indices\u00a0<\/b>tab on the top.<\/li>\n
  2. On the left pane, under the\u00a0Search Configuration<\/b>\u00a0section, click\u00a0Weights<\/b>.<\/li>\n
  3. On the Weights page, click\u00a0+<\/strong>Add Searchable Field<\/b>\u00a0on the upper-right.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  4. In the Add Weight dialog box, search for a field in the search bar and select it.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  5. Enter a short description in the\u00a0Description\u00a0<\/b>field.<\/li>\n
  6. Under the\u00a0Set Weight<\/b>\u00a0section, drag the slider to set the weight from 0 through 10.\"\"<\/a><\/li>\n
  7. Click\u00a0Add to List<\/b>.

    <\/span>Managing Weights\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

    You can perform the following actions on <\/span>Weights<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Change<\/b> the weight using the slider to increase or decrease the weight.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. For custom fields, click the <\/span>edit <\/b>icon to <\/span>update the description<\/b> for the field.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. For custom fields, click the <\/span>trash <\/b>icon to <\/span>delete<\/b> the field.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Reset the weights using the <\/span>Reset to Default<\/b> option. This reverts weights configuration to the system default state:<\/span>\n
